Opening the Exhibition
Gimhae National Museum is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Opened on July 29,1998 for purposes of conserving, researching, exhibiting, and educating with regard to the history and cultural heritage of the Gaya, the museum has evolved after over two decades, becoming the symbol of Gaya culture with a beautiful garden surrounded by the woods.
In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Gimhae National Museum opens an exhibition on Gimhae, the base of the museum. Gimhae is best known as the capital of the ancient kingdom; note, however, that Gimhae is actually a city older than Gaya, dating back to prehistoric times.
This exhibition aims to introduce the broad range of Gimhae’s history under the main theme of “History of Gimhae (金海史),” which is subdivided into three themes: “Metal (金),” “Sea (海),” and “History (史).”
Hall I (金) deals with Gimhae from prehistoric times to the Unified Silla. Hall II (海) casts the spotlight on stories of people who lived with rivers and seas. Hall III (史) delves into Gimhae found in historical records.
We at the museum hope that the exhibition provides viewers with opportunities to trace the footsteps of Gimhae.
