GIMHAE NATIONAL MUSEUM
ExhibitionsThe Hittite established a grand empire that ruled most of Anatolia and northern Syria from the 17th through 12th centuries BCE. They are less commonly known than Egypt and Mesopotamia, probably due to the absence of surviving monumental cultural heritage, such as the Valley of the Kings in Egypt or the Royal Tombs of Ur in Mesopotamia. When Hittite cuneiform tablets were deciphered in the 19th century, this unknown ancient civilization was revealed as the most powerful nation in the ancient Near East and a remarkable Bronze Age culture. This special exhibition provides an opportunity to explore the culture of the Hittite. We invite you to join this journey to the Hittite at a time when ironware began to spread in advanced Bronze Age cultures.
