



The Gimhae National Museum was opened in 28 July 1998 in order to restore and display the cultural heritage of Gaya, one of the ancient territories of Korea.
The Gimhae National Museum, located in Gujibong, the origin of Gimhae City contains the history of Gaya. It displays the cultural assets of Gaya collected and assembled for exhibition. In addition, the Gimhae National Museum displays the cultural assets of Byunhan which reflects the culture during the Prehistoric Age around Busan and Gyeongnam areas, which became the foundation of growth of Gaya. There remains a small number of written history of Gaya. Therefore, most of the substantial displays are restored relics and remains left by ancient Korean people. These were mostly unearthed through archeological excavations and diggings.
In this respect, the Gimhae National Museum is characterized as a special museum constructed though archeological finds done by professionals unlike other national museums.
